The Historical Capital of the Burgundy Region.

Dijon is located in the east part of France and is famous for its mustard and for the Burgundy wines. Dijon is the capital of the Cote d’Or department and it is the historical capital of the Burgundy region. The city is located  at the foot of the northern hills of the Cote d’Or on the western part of the Saone. The river Ouche flows through the city, where the Canal de Bourgogne connects the city with the Saone.
Dijon is a very important centre of trade, transport and industry. Since the Roman times Dijon was an important trade place going back to the second century AD with the creation of the Roman road Agrippa. The economy of Dijon is highly developed the main sectors being the metal industry, chemicals, pharmaceutical industry and food processing .The city is one of the most important French rail junctions to the east. The highways and rail networks in Dijon provide easy and quick access to major European cities.
In Dijon are the headquarters of the University of Bourgogne, which was founded in the 18th century. Among the cities monuments and landmarks worth to mention is The Palace of Justice that used to be the seat of the Court of Burgundy during the 15th -16th century. The church of Notre-Dame and the Gothic Cathedral of Saint Benigne, the Gothic church of Saint-Michel and the Monastery of Champmol are all worth visiting. Dijon with its rich historical past is today a green city with a tradition of intense cultural life boasting outstanding culinary, business and shopping experiences .
